Today!

In a few minutes, I'll be heading out to meet some amazing ladies for the Kinfolk Flower Potluck. It's the first time I'll be attending a Kinfolk event, so I'm beyond thrilled to see these wonderful people work their magic. Kinfolk is an inspirational magazine and a creative superfood aimed at young artists and food enthusiasts. In each issue, you can find a combination of recipes, interviews and practical tips geared toward design and detail. Today, our host will be Anna Naphtali from The Colorful Living Project, an amazing photographer and stylist from the Charlotte area. If you want to be inspired and would like to know more about Kinfolk and their workshops in your area, you can find them here.

If you want to see some bits and pieces from this event, you can follow along on Instagram --> @kiidsnob.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

The heart of Kiidsnob

The idea of Kiidsnob started as a place where you could find the latest trendy styles for mom/kiid. I wanted it to be edgy, stylish and extremely fun. Don’t get me wrong: I still do. However, in the path of its development, I ran into an unexpected need in us as mothers that I could not ignore: the need for affirmation, acceptance, approval in the midst of our chaos. The need for someone to stop and say: hey there! you’re doing a good job, I’m proud of you!. So, this puppy quickly evolved into a gathering place, a safe haven for moms that feel like they have no clue  as to what they’re doing and think they’re the only ones feeling this way out there.  You’re welcome.

This blog loves mom/kiid style (I mean, LOVES style), editorial photography, fun activities, healthy organic eating and some real life blurbs here and there.

WARNING: this is a no judge zone.

Encouragement is the heartbeat of this blog. Keep it alive. Fuel it with love. We all need grace. Take a sip and pass it along.

#Kiidsnob: building a happy+healthy generation, one family at a time.

#wednesday --> baking with the tribe: Healthy Oatmeal Cookies

Today was baking day. We started a new schedule for the little ones this week, and so far, it's been working like a charm. I set Wednesdays aside for baking, cooking, teaching our kids the names of a wide variety of fruits and veggies and start some healthy eating habits. Of course, they end up covered in flour, sticky from the honey and all that jazz, but it's all worth it. I believe it's important to teach our kids  what are the best things to eat so, as they grow, they're aware of what they eat and can start making smart choices from their early stages. Today, we made some healthy oatmeal cookies. We don't use butter or sugar in them. Instead, we replaced butter for coconut oil and sweetened them with organic honey/agave instead of sugar. These little treats are delicious and a little chunk of goodness. We don't buy crackers for them anymore, since they can make their own snacks now! We had to use white whole wheat flour and agave, but I can't wait to go to the store and get some almond flour and molasses or maple syrup for our next batch. It's small changes that make the difference, so that's what we're doing these days: making small changes.

#summer --> Bobo Choses

Today has been as sorta good day. Sorta. I felt like I spend the entire day in my head. Andrew and I were really out of it since we only got a couple hours of sleep last night, so our sanity was literally pending on a thread. So, I guess I found refuge in my thoughts. I've been having a serious longing for adventure today. I just wanted to get in the car and drive somewhere, dive in the ocean or climb some mountain. Be one with the elements. Leave all worries in a drawer and let the sun rays kiss me for hours. When I opened my eyes, I found myself at home. Cooking. Cleaning. Nurturing. Although I wasn't able to relieve the desire to feel the weight of a backpack in my shoulders or see a ticket hidden in my passport, I realized I could choose to enjoy the adventure that is jumping and singing and giggling right before my eyes: my children. My husband. My home. I have the power to transform a daunting routine into a beautiful sequence of exciting, loud and unforgettable moments. I didn't make that decision today. My soul chose to protest the apparent lack of wild. Too bad for me. I sure missed out. But tomorrow (oh, how I love tomorrows), I'll have a shiny new chance to make the right decision. To create my own adventures. To (thrive and) grow where I'm planted.

Talking about adventures, summer is around the corner and oh my stars, I ran into the amazing Bobo Choses summer collection! (drool). These people are genius! I love every single item, and they even came up with a few items for women as well. Geez. You can see more of their amazing products here. What are your favorites?

Lately

Hey there. It's been a few months since the last time I posted here. I took a little hiatus to redefine a few things, and I'm just so glad I did. Many changes took place in this past couple of months in our personal lives, changes for the good, and I can't wait to share them with you in this blog. New seasons. New beginnings. Yay.

On Sunday, we were finally able to plant our little garden. This is the first time we're starting it from seeds (natural and organic), so it's going to be a learning experience for us. Josiah helped his daddy out tremendously. He's showing signs of being a great farmer, he loves the outdoors and tough work (moving the dirt around with a little shovel was his favorite task and he spent quite a while just doing that by his daddy's side). Andrew and I have been longing to live in a house with plenty of land and have chickens. (And a goat. For some weird reason, I just really want a goat. smh).

This family also went organic. For the longest time we've heard how expensive it is to eat organic, so you can imagine, in a home with only one income, there was no way for us to even consider that option. Until we discovered Trader Joe's. And for the first time in my life, I LOVE (yes, I mean it) to go shopping and even look forward to our weekly Wednesday trip to the store. We planned it out to the point that we spend less (or sometimes the same amount) than when we used to shop at Wally, and we get to eat organic, healthy and super yummy food (90% of our pantry is now organic products). This change led us to try new recipes, and all of a sudden, I was captivated by food. I became curious about recipes, try to replace ingredients for a healthier choice. I've discovered Coconut oil. I'm forever changed.

We  started a little activity plan with our two little bears. Both kids and mama have been in tremendous need of some structure throughout the day. It's so easy for the kids to get bored or distracted and end up in front of the TV. I've been working crazy hours and I can see how that affects them, so I decided to put together a daily fun plan for us to follow. We started this week strong! We all needed a little structure (just a little, though ;).

Can't wait to catch up with each of you.

#thrifted

I recently went on a little thrifting trip. I've been doing this every Thursday for a couple of weeks now, so it seems to be my new "thing" to do on Thursday afternoons. I won't complain (wink). I decided to explore new places and, boy, was that a good idea. I found this store in our little downtown area. This is just half of it. I spent who-knows-how-long walking around over and over again. Every time I would find things I missed in my previous round. My "10 min" stop ended up being closer to 2 hours of pure delight for my eyes and soul. There were so many things I wanted to bring home and actually, many things that I wanted to get just to give away to my future blog readers. Maybe a future vintage home giveaway? #squeal.

Hope you guys had a great weekend and woohoo for Monday! (positive thinking, friends. Positive thinking.)
